A beginnes book
I rate the book as being very good, but it could be better. It had nice style, but not quite what I was looking for.

Eats: A Folk History of Texas Foods
Published in Paperback by Texas Christian Univ Pr (August, 1992)
Authors: Ernestine Sewell Linck, Joyce Gibson Roach, and Ernestine P. Sewell
Average review score:

Downright offensive
I agree with the other reviewer. I am from South Texas, and the assesment of our food was cursory, and unresearched opinions.

I really didn't like the interview from the East Texans, which was an essay written by a woman who reminices about the food cooked for them by "the blacks that worked for Daddy."

I know historically African Americans have been in the position of being employed, rather than being the employer. However, I thought that if this book were published in 1989, the subject would have been presented more sensitively.

'Nuf sed.

Did They Do Their Research????????
I'll be honest with you. I only read the section which interviewed the lady from South Texas on Mexican American cooking. But I came across enough errors, to indicate that the journalism was pretty sloppy, at least in this section. Errors which should not have been made and which could have been avoided by checking a couple of sources and coincidentally would have made for a more interesting story.

Example 1: "Taco" is defined as a snack. The word taco comes from "wedge" or "wad", the wadding such as was used to stuff a cannon or rifle. Because tortilla tacos were originally soft and round, well, you can see how you'd get to the image of stuffing a wad of food into your mouth.

Example 2: A little research would have turned up that enchilada is a shortened form of tortilla enchilada, "chili'ed tortilla" in other words. They shouldn't have missed this one.

Example 3: The dicho for "como el agua para chocolate" is completely wrong.

Mel Gibson (Superstars of Film)
Published in Library Binding by Chelsea House Pub (Library) (January, 1998)
Authors: Jon E. Lewis and Sandy Noble
Average review score:

This is a very disappointing book for the price
This book is an extremely thin volume and thin summary of Mr. Gibson and his films. A much better book is The Films of Mel Gibson and also Lethal Hero. The latter gives a good history of Mel's life and lots of interesting info on his movies and the making of them. I would not recommend this book by John Lewis/Sandy Noble. I don't know why it took two of them to compile it!

A disappointing book on Mel Gibson
I found this book to be a disppointing book. It started when I saw how thin the book was. It seemed to be no thicker than a children's nursery rhyme book.

The content was okay. It had pretty much the same factual information about Mr. Gibson as other books I've read.

I'm working on an authorized biography of Mr. Gibson and I hope that it will contain more of the personal information that people would like to know about one of the most versatile and interesting actors of our time!

Financial Reporting and Analysis: Using Financial Accounting Information
Published in Hardcover by South-Western College Pub (01 May, 2000)
Author: Charles H. Gibson
Average review score:

Bad and piece of krap
This book was written by a non accounting guy probably who knew more finance than accounting. This book should not be prescribed by any college or professor for accounting! Its terrible to comprehend coz the author does not explain from where or how he gets the numbers for the problems that he has worked out in the book. This book is confusing, creates frustration, and basically makes you loose your patience in minutes upon reading. I feel like I have been cheated of my hard earned money

Very disappointing book....
This book is very disappointing. I also believe that this book is targeted to accountants, however, I think that it was written as a class project. This book is loaded with problems.

For example, there are references to things for which there are no definations (e.g. materiality of options) there are basic errors in the case study (e.g. Case 9-5, p. 355, "Cumulative effect of accounting change, 189,191) and the 'supporting' CD does _not_ contain ANY of the income statement or balance sheets needed to solve any of the problems or case studies. These are just a few examples of the problems/errors that I've found.

I'm sorry, but for and Eighth Edition and a good sum of money, I expected more!

The only reason that I give it one star is because I could not give it any less (seriously!!).

poor textbook
This book was written by an accountant and it is readable only to accountants. If you do not have practical and extensive experience in accounting, you will have hard time learning about financial analysis. Explanations are very brief and not helpful. Only good thing about it is a lot of examples and good problems and cases to work on.

Hp Openview: A Manager's Guide (McGraw-Hill Series on Computer Communications)
Published in Paperback by McGraw Hill Text (15 January, 1997)
Authors: Jill Huntington-Lee, Kornel Terplan, Jeffrey A. Gibson, and Jeff Gibson
Average review score:

Don't waste your money
This book is out of date...It's great if you are a manager contemplating the purchase of HP Openview...but you can get that from HP for free!..It is pitiful if you are trying to implement Openview from a technical standpoint....save your money. I can't believe that there are no other books out there on implementing HP Openview...

worthless
you are defineately better off reading the HP manuals on OpenView. They should have titled this book a buyers guide to network management products.

Shallow Book
This book is merely an overview of the suite of Openview products. It is NOT hands-on and has little more than one can expect from sales literature. I am not sure what purpose the book serves

Bear Trap: Why Wall Street Doesn't Work
Published in Hardcover by Atlantic Monthly Press (June, 1993)
Author: Paul Gibson
Average review score:

I am Still Mad I Read This Book
I have something you do not, a signed first edition of this book. Unfortunately, the book turned out to be such a dull, bland "text book" that the book was relegated to the 10 cents a pound book sale. Ok, if you pick this book up you are looking to learn something, be taught something about Wall Street and the capital markets, read a discussion on what the problems are with M & A activity, higher PE ratios etc, not the most exciting but interesting. You absolutely cannot do that with this book - it is just so dull that I wonder how the author and editor got through it. Any valuable insight is lost to the reader because they have to keep adjusting the toothpicks holding their eyes open. I would look somewhere else.

Cellular Telephones & Pagers: An Overview
Published in Paperback by Butterworth-Heinemann (November, 1996)
Author: Stephen W. Gibson

Wasn't This in the manual
This book was horrible. It had information on the simple things like dialing and you can find it all in the users manual. I didn't find it useful except for people who just don't know hoa to dial a telephone

Jabez's Prayer
Published in Spiral-bound by C.R. Gibson Company (September, 2001)
Author: C R Gibson Company
Average review score:

Book? What book? This is a journal.
Thought I was ordering the book, Jabez's Prayer. Didn't realize this was a journal. Should not have been classified as such.

However, it is a nice journal to have to record.

Lethal Hero: The Mel Gibson Biography
Published in Hardcover by Oliver Books (October, 1993)
Author: Roland Perry
Average review score:

National Equirer meets High School Newspaper
This is by far the most poorly written, poorly edited book I have ever read. I beg for someone to take it off my shelf and destroy it! The "facts" are largely inaccurate, it is nothing more than a series of synopses of Mel's films, interspersed with already widely published quotes from Mel himself. There are no insights into Mr. Gibson's craft, his approach to acting, in fact, nothing that can't be found on a 3 minute Entertainment Tonight fluff piece. Truly a waste of money. This is not an author with talent to spare.

Microcomputer Systems: The 8086/8088 Family Architecture Programming and Design, Second Edition
Published in Hardcover by Prentice Hall (13 January, 1986)
Authors: Yu-Cheng Liu and Glenn A. Gibson
Average review score:

Very Confusing and Insufficient
A very bad book. Very dry reading. Usually tough to understand what the authors are even trying to talk about as they tend to skip over important points. Very little if any examples on how to actually program assemly; the graphs and pictorials they have are very confusing and irrelevant. I would keep a mile away from this thing.
